Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Honest A11y free accessibility scanner (honest-a11y-scanner.onrender.com) and the Honest A11y Shopify app. We collect as little as we can get away with, and we don't sell any of it.

What we collect — free scanner

• The store URL you scan. We fetch and analyze the publicly visible pages of that store to produce your report.
• Your email address, if you choose to enter it to unlock a full report. We use it to send you the report and, at most occasionally, product updates. Unsubscribe any time.
• Basic usage events (scan started, report viewed) and IP-based rate-limiting data, used only to operate the service, prevent abuse, and measure whether the product is useful.

What we collect — Shopify app

• Store and product data via the Shopify API: product titles, image URLs, and image alt text, accessed only to audit accessibility and (with your explicit action) write improved alt text back to your store. We request only the scopes we need (write_products, write_content).
• Scan results and applied fixes: which images were flagged and fixed, so we can show your history, enforce plan limits, and monitor for regressions.
• Billing status via Shopify's billing system. We never see or store your payment card details — Shopify handles all payment processing.
• We do not access your customers' personal data. If Shopify sends us a GDPR data request or redaction webhook for a customer, we have nothing to return or delete beyond the store-level data described here, which we honor accordingly.

AI processing

To generate alt text, we send product image URLs and product titles to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic processes this data to return the suggested text and does not use API data to train its models (per Anthropic's commercial terms). No customer personal data is included in these requests.

What we never do

• Sell or rent your data to anyone.
• Use your store data for anything other than providing the service.
• Store payment card details.

Data retention and deletion

Scan results and lead emails are kept while your account or report is active. If you uninstall the Shopify app, we delete the store's session data promptly and remaining store records within 30 days, and we honor Shopify's shop/redact webhook. To have scanner data or your email removed at any time, contact us and we'll delete it.

Third-party services we rely on

• Render — hosting (servers and databases).
• Shopify — app platform, authentication, and billing.
• Anthropic — AI alt-text generation, as described above.
